News | May 18, 2010

On May 13 celebrities such as Russell Simmons, Angela Simmons, Estelle, Swizz Beatz, and others arrived at the 2010 SESAC Music Awards Gala held at the IAC Building in New York City. Numerous artists won awards in different categories including Nate “Danja” Hills who took home Songwriter of the Year as well as Song of the Year for his chart topping smash “Knock You Down,” which he wrote for Keri Hilson. Other honorees included Swizz Beatz, who accepted the Inspiration Award from music icon Russell Simmons.

One of the evening’s highlights was delivered by New York’s PS22 Choir who delivered an inspiring rendition of “Empire State Of Mind,” the head bopping tune performed by Alicia Keys and Jay-Z and written by SESAC affiliate Angela Hunte, who was also honored shortly after the thrilling performance.

This year’s award show attracted over 400 songwriters, publishers, and industry professionals with more than 40 songwriter and publisher award recipients in the categories of Pop, R&B/Hip-Hop, and Rock. The event was a smooth success thanks to primary sponsors, Billboard Magazine and SPIN Magazine, as well as Maker’s Mark who provided attendees with their signature Martini cocktails “On The Hudson.”
