Introducing: Cj By Cookie Johnson
Although nothing may have come between Brooke Shields and her Calvin’s, more and more women are finding it increasingly difficult to form an equally passionate relationship with the denim in their closet. Are we all simply destined to continue on this never-ending and unrewarding quest for that elusive, perfect pair of jeans?
Not if Cookie Johnson has anything to say about it. As the wife of legendary NBA superstar and generous philanthropist Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Cookie is stepping into the spotlight herself with a new denim line that is creating some serious buzz. Cj by Cookie Johnson is the latest denim line overseen by mastermind Michael Glasser, who counts iconic labels Seven for all Mankind, Citizens of Humanity, and Rich and Skinny among his denim empire. His partnership with Johnson came out of their mutual desire to create a line for women with a fit and curvy body type, who have long been thwarted by the designer denim labels standard, slim cuts.
Johnson has a formidable fashion background, graduating from Michigan State with a degree in Retailing of Clothing and Textiles. Finding herself often frustrated by the lack of premium denim for women with her type of figure, Johnson decided to do something about it. As she explains, the motivation behind her line was simply to provide women with real bodies the chance to feel sexy in designer denim too. She says, “The confidence that great-fitting jeans give women is the most rewarding thing about creating Cj.” The jeans come in a variety of styles—boot cut, straight leg, boyfriend, high-waist, and legging, in sizes 24-38, and are priced between $112 and $185.
If you would like the opportunity to meet the woman behind the hottest denim label on the market right now, Cookie Johnson will be at the San Francisco Neiman Marcus on April 17 from 1 to 5 p.m. to promote her line. You can also catch her on View from the Bay on April 16. Don’t give up hope—that far-away dream of finding the perfect pair of jeans just got a whole lot closer to becoming a reality.
