Barneys’ Trunk-a-Palooza: A Fashion Circus for Contemporary Designers

Attention upper east siders: Barneys, the go-to shopping destination for all things Alaia, Thakoon, Philip Lim, Alexander Wang, etc., etc., is throwing a Trunk-a-Palooza. And, no, don’t expect to hear live tunes from your favorite festival circuit bands; this is a palooza of the fashion sort.

On April 21, the retail store will host designers like Shipley Halmos, Philip Lim, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville of Rag & Bone, Alexander Wang, Richard Chai, Lisa Mayock of Vena Cava, and plenty more in what is sure to be a merry-go-round of amazing fashion finds. Rather than sticking to the typical “designer floor only” tradition of trunk shows past, Barneys fashion director Julie Gilhart is bringing the fun upstairs to the Co-Op floor (that’s levels 7 and 8 of the Madison Avenue locale, for those of you chicsters hiding under a rock).

Shipley Halmos will set the mood with limited edition silkscreened posters, Vena Cava will offer mix CDs, and Rag & Bone will surely sell out of the medal pendants used for its Spring 2010 show. DJ Beverly Bond will spin. The festivities begin at 5p, so if you are looking to score straight-off-the-runway pieces from your favorite contemporary designers might we suggest, ahem, scheduling a “doctor” appointment at the end of your mid-week workday?
