Maison Martin Margiela Opens in The Magic City

News | March 29, 2010

The man behind Maison Martin Margiela has always been a mystery. His refusal to be interviewed or photographed has been the buzz of the fashion industry—even adding to his success and notoriety as a designer. Over recent months, fans have debated whether or not he was even still designing. Those rumors were dispelled, however, when majority stakeholder Renzo Rosso of the Diesel Group confirmed, “Margiela has not been there for a long time.”  Well, thanks for that.

Now, local fanatics will have Margiela at their fingertips. Maison Martin Margiela just opened their 19th retail outpost in the Magic City. The shop will carry both menswear and womenwear, as well as accessories, shoes, and eyewear. Housed in a 2,700-square-foot-space in the Design District, the store boasts ornate finishings and furnishings by Margiela’s interiors line. The shoe area is carpeted with hoof prints, a nod to the label’s infamous toe-imprinted shoes. It’s fitting that they chose the Design District as their third home in the States; expect to run elbows with the local tastemakers and gallerists responsible for attracting the high fashion set there in the first place.
