Dan Marino Raises More Than $165,000 for Foundation

News | March 1, 2010

On Monday February 1, the Dan Marino Foundation raised more than $165,000 at the Samsung Dan Marino Foundation Open Door Invitational Presented by Ultimate Software and Leiter’s Landing at Grand Oaks Country Club in Davie, Florida.

The foundation was established 17 years ago and focuses on providing young adults treatment programs, outreach services, and transition programs for those in foster care.

The foundation also supports autism research for the Miami Children’s Hospital in Weston, Florida . In fact, it is now recognized as being one of the finest facilities in the country for children with autism.

Local businessmen, notables and corporate sponsors enjoyed a breakfast, lunch, silent auction, and a raffle.

Marino, the former Miami Dolphins quarterback and chairman of the Dan Marino Foundation, was present at the event along with 30 of his closes friends for a day of golfing, including: Jason Taylor, Lawrence Taylor, Bob Griese, Chris Berman, Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski, Joe Rose, Merril Hoge, Al Leiter, Mike Schmidt, Dick Stockton, Terry Kirby, Chad Henne, Anthony Fasano, Sam Madison, John “Footy” Kross, among many others.

Unfortunately, Florida’s unpredictable weather made golfing a little hard to play under the rain, so guests were treated to an impromptu “Chalk Talk Q & A” panel with Dan Marino and ESPN’s Chris Berman.
