Be Italian: Boys’ Towns of Italy “Ball of the Year” Gala

Get out those date books and save April 8, 2010 well in advance. That Thursday night marks the 65th annual Boys’ Towns of Italy “Ball of the Year” Gala, taking place in the Grand Ballroom of the classic New York City hotel The Pierre. You’ll be in good company, sharing the spotlight with the organization’s “Celebrity of the Year” Lainie Kazan (scheduled to give a special performance,) philanthropist and Boys’ Town of Italy “Woman of the Year” Francesca Braschi Gumina, senior vice president of the Conair corporation and recipient of the “Humanitarian Award” Lee Rizzuto Jr., textile industrialist and “Man of the Year” Anthony Maltese, and VIP Mark Simone, the WABC radio host and emcee of the evening. Founded in 1945 by Monsignor John Patrick Carroll-Abbing, Boys’ Towns of Italy is an organization dedicated to providing aid for underprivileged children from 14 war-torn countries around the world. A ball that also happens to be for a great cause? You won’t want to miss it. In previous years, this prestigious affair has seen the likes of Joe Piscopo, fashion designer Domenico Vacca, Veronica Atkins Mersentes and Alexis Mersentes, former model Carmen Dell’Orefice, actress/singer Liliane Montevecchi and Broadway actor Tommy Tune.
