Passing beneath the red awnings and snuggling into a booth at late night at Pastis is a New York City tradition. The 1930s Parisian style brasserie is perfect for a 1:00 A.M. bite. Beneath distressed mirrors and light globes, pipping hot onion soup gratinée, and smooth chicken liver, foie gras mousse and hearty steak frites with béarnaise await. A regular among celebrities, Sheryl Crow, Katie Holmes and Suri Cruise, Jay-Z and Beyonce were spotted dining by the paparazzi who stake discrete claims on the cobblestone paths around Keith McNally’s hotspot. While Pastis is one of New York’s busiest restaurants, regulars get a special private phone number to avoid any wait.
