The Aspen Scoop

News | January 2, 2010
The barometer read four degrees but the mood was white hot at the peak of Aspen Mountain this morning.  With the sun on my neck, snow beneath my skis, and my first double diamond under my belt, it was an amazing start to the New Year!
The snow bunnies were out in full force post-noon after reigning in the new year at Club Caribou and hotels Jerome and Sky, where the Aspen Peak and Men’s Journal magazines hosted the New Year’s festivities against a backdrop of fireworks and local bonfire.  Familiar faces were among the sportif including including interior designer Edward Yedid, Paris Hilton, Brandon Davis, and actors Gerard Butler and Ali Larter.  Dining slope-side today at Bonnie’s were Diane Von Furstenberg (elegant as always- a ballerina on the slopes,) and husband Barry Diller who was unfortunate enough to get mowed down by my amateur parabolic skis (which showed more like two enormous canoes on the slopes).
As usual, the apres-ski could be no where else but Little Nell where the beautiful crowd snuggled up by the fireplace sipping hot chocolate, playing backgammon, and downing olive martinis.
If you find yourself in town, make sure to hit local restaurants Elevation, Rustique, and Lulu Wilson, where the taverny ambiance, delicious bites, and extensive wine lists are some of the best in town.
