Mayor Bloomberg Won’t Run For President…Or Will He?

When Mayor Bloomberg welcomed former campaign strategist Howard Wolfson into his administration, we couldn’t help but wonder if he’s still planning to run for president. When asked, the billionaire major said he has absolutely no plans.

“I have no plans to run for president of the United States in 2012 or 2016 or 20-anything,” says Bloomberg according to The New York Daily News.

We’re not convinced.

Wolfson and Bloomberg have worked together before, most recently on the mayor’s campaign for a third term. Bloomberg’s hiring of such a high profile political strategist (Hillary Rodham Clinton’s former media strategist to be precise) suggests that he is gearing up for a 2012 presidential campaign.

The former Clinton strategist has worked for both New York senators, Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand, along with many other New York officials. According to the mayor’s press release, Wolfson will be involved in “a wide range of policy and strategic communication issues.” Wolfson was one of three staffers on Bloomberg’s most recent mayoral re-election campaign who received $400,000 bonuses at the end of the election. He’s expected to start in March.
