T Salon on Melrose: Don’t Call It The New Dr. Tea’s

News | December 9, 2009

Regardless of your position in the whole vegan/macrobiotic food spectrum, there’s one thing everyone can agree on – the sweet, calming, invigorating powers of tea.  Even if you can’t imagine how to start pronouncing quinoa, you’re familiar with the deliciously relaxing effects of chamomile.

With the tragic closing of Dr. Tea’s earlier this year, which sent tea fans all over LA into a boundless tizzy, there has been little in the way of a real replacement.  The pimple-faced, final-exam-taking baristas at Starbucks aren’t the type to sit and chat with you about the process of steeping, for example, nor are they really willing to do much more than pour hot water in a cup and point you toward the raw sugar.  Tea can be, if you find the right spot, an experience.

The wait may be over – T Salon opened a few weeks ago on Melrose and La Brea.  Next door to M Café and offering their own selection of vegan cuisine, eating beforehand may be a smart move and while they can’t boast any space like the outdoor courtyard at Dr. Tea’s, they will change the way you see, and more importantly drink, tea.  Originally from New York, you can find every variation on green teas, white teas, black teas, rooibos, herbal, and organic – very nearly tailoring to whatever it is you’d like to feel.
