Shaq’s Expanding His Resume

It’s hard to keep track of what basketball star, Shaquille O’Neal’s actual job description is. Actor, musician, sheriff, Twitter star, basketball champion, and now…art curator?

Shaquille O’Neal is taking on a new role as he embarks upon expanding his resume and public recognition. O’Neal will be curating a gallery show for New York’s Flag Art Foundation appropriately titled for the 7 foot 1 inch star, “Size DOES Matter.”

The exhibit will be examining the  idea of scale in contemporary art and will be featuring some of the big names in the art world such as Chuck Close, Jeff Koons, Andreas Gursky, Kehinde Wiley, and many more.

O’Neal has been quoted as saying that his transition into being a curator was “a little harder than I thought it would be.” Despite these initial challenges, O’Neal has a great track record in adapting to new roles, and it’s likely this time will be no different.

The exhibition will feature 52 artworks, including five special commissions and many loans from private collections and museums. Writer James Frey, most well known for his public back-and-forth with Oprah over his bestselling book, “A Million Little Pieces”, will be writing an essay for the exhibition catalog. All of this, plus O’Neal’s presence, are bound to attract a large audition making the exhibition a great success before it even begins.

The show is set to open in February at the Flag Art Foundation’s exhibition space in the Chelsea neighborhood.
