Marcus Samuelsson is Summoned to The White House

News | November 23, 2009

Accomplished chef, Marcus Samuelsson, has been invited to cook at the White House tomorrow evening, November 24, for President Obama and First Lady Michelle. If you’re stressing about how your Thanksgiving turkey is going to turn out, imagine how Samuelsson is feeling!

Marcus Samuelsson is a highly respected celebrity chef who is well-known from the infamous Aquavit and his cookbook which came out recently. But this week, it’s likely that none of that is on his mind. He has been invited to come and cook at the White House for the state dinner which will be happening tomorrow evening, and it’s reported that Samuelsson was chosen over some stiff competition, including chefs Charlie Palmer, Michael Nischan, Dan Barber, and Patrick O’Connell. No pressure!

Prior to the Obama Administration, the White House did not typically import outside chefs, however over the past year that has changed quite significantly with the likes of Bobby Flay, Michael Psilakis, and Maricel Presil having already made an appearance in the kitchen.
