Eli Broad wants to build a public museum in Beverly Hills, California. This comes a year after the billionaire decided not to give his collection to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
The gallery would display works from his personal collection and his charitable foundation. Broad’s proposal includes offices for his art foundation, which along with a second Broad foundation has assets up the wazzoo, $2.5 billion. Broad plans would have the new museum and offices for the Broad Art Foundation to open in roughly three years. The facility would house art which is currently stored or displayed across L.A.
The proposed museum would be located near the corner of Santa Monica and Wilshire boulevards and would replace a Starbucks. Don’t worry coffee enthusiast, there is likely a Starbucks across the street. Broad would like his collection to be see by the broadest audience.
