Martin Scorsese is bringing “Gangs of New York” to the small screen! The acclaimed film director is teaming up with Miramx to make a television series of his Oscar-nominated 2002 movie about a territorial war between “natives” of New York and recently arrived Irish Catholic immigrants during the turn of the century.

“This time and era of America’s history and heritage is rich with characters and stories that we could not fully explore in a two-hour film,” Scorcese said in a statement. “A television series allows us the time and creative freedom to bring this colorful world to life.”
