Miami power player David Grutman certainly has the magic touch when it comes to all things in the hospitality industry. Known for his successful nightclubs LIV and STORY, as well as dining hot spots Komodo and OTL, it can be safely assured that whatever project this man takes on will surely be a gold mine. That being said, we are excited to report that the highly-anticipated, vegan restaurant, Planta, opened by the serial entrepreneur, is officially open to the public. In other news, on the same day, he announced the name of his new hospitality company, Groot Hospitality.

The Toronto transplant comes to Miami with much excitement, boasting a completely vegan, inventive menu. Items such as the Korean Fried Cauliflower Lettuce Wraps, Frenchie Pizza, Planta Burger and unique, plant-based sushi highlight the menu, created by Executive Chef David Lee. Ingredients in the dishes include plant-based delicacies, such as cashew mozzarella, almond parmesan, fresh fruits and vegetables and so much more. One of the most unique aspects of the concept is the second-floor rooftop garden. The team proudly boasts that their ingredients come from roof-to-table, a unique concept that solidifies the restaurant’s ethos of offering locally-sourced, high-quality and 100-percent plant-based fare.

As with anything Groot Hospitality does, the space not only offers delicious cuisine, but also a trendy aesthetic. Located in the gorgeous South of Fifth neighborhood, the 200-seat restaurant features two indoor dining rooms and outdoor terrace seating, boasting black-and-white flooring, natural light from the numerous ceiling skylight cutouts and hexagonal-tiled walls with seafoam green accent walls. The space incorporates a unique plant-based sushi bar, which offers a variety of hand rolls, wraps, sushi and nigiri. Additionally, guests can order cold-press cocktails, juices and shots created with masterful flavor combinations.

The restaurant made its debut during the SOBEWFF with a sold-out vegan dinner created by Chef David Lee and famed chef Chloe Coscarelli, receiving high praise from the crowd of discerning diners. We have no doubt that Planta won’t deliver anything but perfection, given Grutman’s pristine track record of creating the hottest spots in the city.
