In its exclusive, invite-only opening, the event garnered no shortage of star power, which included famed actor Michael B. Jordan; former NBA all-star Amar’e Stoudemire; creative designer and founder of Italian-based clothing company Off-White, Virgil Abloh; celebrity photographer Jonathan Mannion; Major Lazer’s Jillionaire; and of course, Swizz Beatz’ wife, Grammy Award-winning vocal powerhouse, Alicia Keys. Swizz Beatz delighted guests with a special DJ set alongside DJ Runna and Aine Zion, while Leikeli47 performed her hit song, “Money” to a cheering crowd.
Staying true to his slogan, “By the artist, for the artist, with the people,” Swizz Beatz (who curated the collection himself) ensured that each artist received their gallery space free of charge, and will receive 100-percent of each sale – a rarity in the art world. Additionally, the “Island Might”-themed exhibition is open to the public at no cost, in an effort to really celebrate and appreciate the art and music worlds.
