Whether you want a deep tissue massage or a cleansing dermaplane facial, there is no shortage of luxe spas in the city that offer these treatments. In fact, we think there is an ideal spa for every beauty need. Want to soak in a hot tub and indulge in delicious Japanese food? Head to Onsen. Need a spa experience outside of San Francisco? Spend an afternoon at the Sense Spa at the Rosewood Sand Hill. Looking for a customized facial that will treat your personal skincare issues? Kristina Holey is your girl. However, if you’re looking for a stellar all around spa experience in the city, you can’t go wrong with one of our favorite places, listed below.

1 Spa Radiance

Spa Radiance has been serving loyal San Franciscans since 1976—that means generations of spa goers! How has the business stood the test of time? Quite simply: they provide a great service in a clean and inviting environment with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Plus it’s a one-stop shop for everything, from an anti-aging facial to a quick eyebrow wax to a sculpting cellulite treatment.

2 Remède Spa at the St. Regis

Many of the city’s top hotels have lovely spas, but none of them are quite like Remède, the spa at the St. Regis. With two floors of treatment rooms, a large and bright women’s lounge, and indoor pool with a cityscape view, it’s one of the most luxurious—and sexy!—spas we’ve ever been to. What makes it unique is the privacy. Rarely do you come across other spa goers. Instead you’re constantly greeted by a polite staff member who is ready to escort you to the lounge or present you with a glass of sparkling wine. Our preferred treatment? The 7x7 hot oil massage, a 75-minute experience that’s inspired by the 49 square miles of SF and features a lyrical massage.

3 Spa L’Occitane by the Bay at the Ritz-Carlton

Another stellar hotel spa? Spa L’Occitane by the Bay at the Ritz-Carlton. The 6,200 square-foot spa opened late last year and is an exclusive partnership between the 40-year old French skincare brand, L'Occitane, and the Ritz. Although L’Occitane operates more than 80 spas in the world, this is its first West Coast outpost. All white decor, glowing candle light, and fragrant yellow flowers make you feel immediately relaxed upon arrival. We recommend you book one of the three specially-developed San Francisco treatments. There is one geared toward over-worked techies that includes a deep tissue shoulder massage, another with a special eye-brightening treatment for avid travelers, and a third inspired by SF’s changing microclimate that alternates between cold and hot therapies.

4 Senspa

Senspa is soothing beauty oasis in the Presidio. The spa is decorated with lush green plants, gurgling water elements, and Asian-inspired details like bamboo room dividers. Choose from a wide variety of treatments including acupuncture, infrared sauna, and seasonally-inspired experiences. There are 14 treatment rooms, three chic and inviting lounge spaces, and a 15-seat cafe that serves salads and entrees from the Plant Cafe. If you’re planning a girl’s day at the spa, Senspa is the perfect place to do it.

5 Serenity Medspa

No spa roundup is complete without mention of a medical spa, a place where one can seek more complex skin, face, and body procedures. We love Serenity MedSpa in downtown San Francisco. The space was recently remodeled by Sophie Azouaou of Sophisticate Interiors and now features only recycled materials—making the spa as healthy, green, and non-invasive as possible. Botox, hydrafacials, laser hair removal, body contouring—you name it, Serenity MedSpa offers it—even feminine rejuvenation. The brother and sister doctor team provide private result-driven treatments in a non-clinical and welcoming atmosphere.
