Although the Ritz-Carlton in Tahoe is in a prime position for winter—it’s smack dab in the middle of Northstar mountain with ski-in and ski-out facilities—during the summer, its location is less desirable. The resort is a 20-minute drive from the lake and it doesn’t have any sort of lakeside amenities, which can be disappointing if you arrive in Tahoe with hopes of lounging on the sand with a glass of rosé in your hand. However, all of this is about to change. The brand has just announced their amazing new plans for a new lakefront project, the Lake Club, Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe.

The Lake Club will provide guests with an unparalleled beachside experience—it will be the resort’s new home away from home. A house shuttle will chauffeur guests to and from the resort to the club. The property is on the North Shore and is being designed by local architect, Clare Walton. Walton will use organic materials (stone and cedar) sourced from the surrounding areas to build a warm and sophisticated space that is housed in a clean and contemporary steel and glass structure. “Our intention is to create a space that complements the rugged landscape with a clean and modern aesthetic,” Walton said in a statement. “The transparency of our design allows guests to connect immediately with the setting and flow seamlessly between interior and exterior social gathering spaces.” With floor-to-ceiling glass walls, the Lake Club will feature indoor outdoor living and breathtaking views of the lake. The Club will have a multi-level restaurant and bar, an expansive lawn that stretches to the water’s edge, an outdoor whirlpool, fire pit, barbecue, modern showers and changing area, storage facilities to house water toys, direct access to the beach, and a private boat pier.

The new pier will allow the Ritz to offer an entirely new program of summer recreational activities and water sports including stand up paddle boards, kayaking, and boating. “The launch of the Lake Club will provide our guests with luxury amenities and private access to Lake Tahoe along with limitless summer recreational activities,” said Joseph Mattioli, general manager of the Ritz. “The addition of the Lake Club will allow the Ritz-Carlton to offer a one-of-a-kind luxury resort experience, one that includes both direct access to the mountain and to the lake, a first for the Lake Tahoe region.” The hotel has partnered with the Tahoe Adventure Company and Action Water Sports Tahoe Vista to provide guests with the ultimate unparalleled summer experience. Wave runners, boat rentals, waterskiing and wake boarding, parasailing, and charter fishing are on the agenda. Construction for the new project is already under way and Tahoe lovers can expect to enjoy the new Lake Club come summer 2017. If you have plans to visit the resort this summer, there are plenty of on-property activities—like guided hikes, mountainside yoga, and barbecues—to participate in, but if you want water sports and lake activities, you’ll have to wait until next year for a Ritz experience.
