We’re past the mid-January mark — this means that your New Year’s resolutions are probably starting to fade from mind. However, it’s always a good idea to keep fitness at the forefront of your daily routine. A regular workout controls weight, combats health conditions and diseases, boosts energy, promotes sleep, improves mood, and enhances one’s sex life. When you live in the glorious city that is San Francisco, a regular workout can also be extremely fun. To encourage you to continue your gym goals well into 2016, we’re sharing our favorite boutique workouts. These are the hautest five studios where you need to be getting your butt kicked and sweat on.

1 Barry’s Bootcamp

Just before Christmas, Barry’s opened a shiny new gym in the Marina on Lombard at Scott Street. The massive studio can fit 55-60 people, has more showers and lockers than the other SF Barry's, and a prepared meal partnership with nearby Plate. Head in for an intense hour-long cardio and strength session with one of Barry’s inspirational instructors. Although the workout is tough, you can’t help but feel alive in the best kind of way when you complete the difficult set of treadmill and weight intervals. If you don’t live near the Marina, book a class at Barry’s original location in Soma directly across from the ballpark. Up to 43 people can workout at the same time at Barry’s Soma, which has a smoothie bar, rocking sound system, and great sense of community.

2 Salt

Salt is a small, but inviting one-room studio on Divisadero Street. Founded by Melissa Boyd, an ex-bartender and barre guru, Salt has two stellar workouts. There’s Boyd’s signature fusion of cardio kickboxing, high intensity interval training, and barre known as Barre Fight and 7x7, a fat-burning strength-building circuit of seven sports conditioning exercises. Either class will have you drenched in sweat within the first 15 minutes. The best thing about Salt is there is no pretentiousness. There’s nothing intimidating about the chic studio or Boyd’s crew of female instructors. Even the receptionist will welcome you warmly with a smile and a tour of the stylishly decorated studio.

3 Burn

Another effective workout that combines different techniques? Burn’s 55-minute heart-pumping, body sculpting combination of pilates, cardio, and strength training. Created by fitness expert Lisa Corsello, Burn has four locations in San Francisco and one each in the South Bay and Oakland. Don’t be intimidated by the pilates springs, the friendly instructors (we recommend taking your first class with Corsello) will guide you through all of the intricate motions. After performing just a few of the endurance, agility, and balance improving activities, you’ll quickly realize why this class is called burn. Every muscle in your body will be awake and on fire!

4 Basecamp

Can’t commit to an hour-long workout everyday? You’ve got to try Basecamp on Filbert and Van Ness. With the motto “in, out, done,” Basecamp’s workout is only 35 minutes long. You’ll perform a whirlwind of 30 one-minute exercises alternating between an air assault bike and intense weight strengthening that focuses on a different part of the body. It goes like this: bike, abs, bike, legs, bike, upper, and then you blink, and the class is over. The staff is accommodating and helps you have the most positive all-encompassing workout. You’ll leave feeling invigorated in all aspects — physically, mentally, and emotionally — and be eager to head back the next day for another awesome bike bonding session.

5 Pilates ProWorks

At Pilates ProWorks's two locations in San Francisco, you can experience a pilates workout that is unlike any other one out there. Why? One word: FitFormer. Created by Pilates ProWorks founder, Oscar Sanin, the FitFormer is a pilates reformer that was designed for an all-in-one seamless full-body workout. It’s longer, wider, and more comfortable than a traditional pilates reformer and is the only piece of equipment that is suitable for old school and contemporary pilates practices. There are 10 different types of pilates classes to choose from. Our personal favorite is the newest, MatBox. Yoga, pilates, and kickboxing come together in one fast-moving high energy workout.
