What lies beyond the Four Seasons’ curved glass visage that glistens over Highway 101 in Palo Alto, CA? The hotel, built in 2006 at the rear of a large business park off of University Avenue, offers more than meets the eye. In addition to exceptional service for which the brand is known, the Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley at East Palo Alto, as it is officially called, boasts a small but luxe rooftop pool, a world-class spa, a destination restaurant, and—after recent décor and tech refurbishments—sleek and sophisticated guest and meeting rooms.
“The existing rooms had strong architectural character but were somewhat austere in their appearance,” says Heather O’Sullivan of Whitespace Interiors. “Our goal was to add dimension by creating greater contrast and by layering rich textures over simple materials to create visual energy, depth and richness.”
Veering from its corporate origins, the new vision is a bit softer and uses sculptural artwork, warm hues and textural fabrics. From new abstract artwork to stylish new loungers, no detail has been overlooked. High-tech enhancements include multiple outlet charging stations, Bose music systems, and the addition of AT&T antennas located on each floor to enhance connectivity.
Also new is the introduction of the Four Seasons Bed that allows guests to choose between Signature, Signature Firm, or Signature Plush bed types. A sleep menu offers luxury sleep aid items including the choice of Tempur-Pedic, foam or body pillows, and tasty bites such as chamomile tea with lavender shortbread cookies.
Meeting and event spaces were also updated with inspiration by Silicon Valley’s startup culture and innovative spirit. Designer EDG Interior Architecture + Design used crisp lines and grid-like details for structure. A luxurious palette of cherry wood, charcoal, dark walnut and champagne metal details creates an air of sophistication. A custom, variegated carpet design featuring plum and persimmon strands connects the spaces throughout the Hotel.
Stylish custom light fixtures match other high-tech enhancements such as a digital customizable marquee, 21-inch iMac meeting room signage, and adjustable audio and lighting options.
