Christopher Kane Celebrates London Debut
British designer Christopher Kane, who unveiled his first London flagship last month, hosted a celebratory bash this week to mark the event in the capital. A host of stars turned out for the party, which was held at nearby auction house Phillips and included dinner, cocktails and plenty of A-list shoulder rubbing.
Among the guests of honour for the evening were John Pawson, the architect responsible for Kane’s minimalist and slick new interior on Mount Street, in the heart of London’s decadent Mayfair area. “I thought he wanted advice from an old man. I had no idea he wanted me to do the job,” jokes Pawson. “There I was, thinking ‘Who can I recommend?’ I was so flattered he chose me,” he added to WWD. Pawson’s talents are already well known in the fashion world—he is the man behind the design of the new look Calvin Klein store in New York a few years back, and hence was perfect for bringing to life Kane’s vision and aesthetic. “We knew we were in safe hands,” said Tammy Kane, the designer’s sister, business partner and deputy creative director.
Other stars who attended the event included François-Henri Pinault, Salma Hayek, Laura Carmichael, Erin O’Connor, Yasmin Le Bon, Nicholas Kirkwood. The latter, whose store is next door to Kane’s, said that he has been regularly checking up on the progress of his fellow designer’s progress on the building work. The opening of the Christopher Kane flagship in the area marks the latest high profile luxury fashion brand to join the exclusive London locale. For Kane, this is just the start of series of expansions set to be rolled out across the globe.
