First Look: Kristin Cavallari Introduces New Jewelry Line, Talks Shop with Haute Living
Kristin Cavallari is already having an epic 2013. She’s recently become a mom to a baby boy, she made a big move from Los Angeles to Chicago to be with her fiance, Chicago Bears quarterback Jay Cutler, and now, is releasing separate shoe and jewelery collections, for Chinese Laundry and Glamboutique with Pascal Mouawad, respectively . We sat down with The Hills alum to talk about fashion, location, major life changes and why you’ll never see her wedding on TV. Plus, the 26-year-old stunner exclusively shows off her complete jewelery line for the very first time.
Q: Where did you get the inspiration for your shoe collection?
A: Both the shoes and jewelry I design are things I want to wear that are true to my style. Both are great representations of my style: I love simplicity and having a very effortless, chic look. The jewelry collection is made up of everyday pieces that you can layer and stack. As for the shoes, there isn’t anything crazy that you’re going to wear once and throw back in the closet. I have a bit of everything. I have a ton of flats, as they’re way easier to wear being a new mom, classic pumps and heels not as high as most heels so you can wear to work. Li have a great bootie
Q: Tell us about your new shoe and jewelry collections.
A: For both the shoes and jewelry, I design stuff that I want to wear that’s true to my style. Both are great representations of my style. I love simplicity and having a very effortless, chic look. The jewelry is everyday pieces that you can layer and stack. The shoes aren’t crazy; there isn’t anything you’re going to wear once and throw back in yoru closet. I have a little bit of everything. I have a ton of the flats (being a new mom) and some classic pumps. The heels aren’t as high as most so you can wear them to work. I also have a great bootie.
Q: This is your first time as a designer. How did that come to be?
A: It was my first time for both [jewelry and fashion]. I really enjoy the design stuff: I can do it from anywhere. I’ve known Pascal for a while, and we’ve been talking about collaborating for a couple of years. I thought now was the right time. It started with the shoes and then I decided to do a jewelery line.
Q: Do you have any plans to design baby clothing in the future?
A: I would love to do something in the mom and baby world; it’s so organic to my life right now. I’d love to do a nursing bra and tank top, especially because I realized from being pregnant that there’s nothing cute out there on the market. Baby clothing is a good idea, but I’d rather do something for the moms.
Q: As a former California girl, which city do you prefer: LA or Chicago?
A: [Jay and I] are in Chicago in football season then we have a place in Nashville; I also travel back and forth to LA a bit. I miss certain things, weather of course, and the healthy lifestyle. There are a million healthy restaurants in La but in Chicago there’s literally two or three.
Q: Which city’s style do you prefer?
A:I prefer LA’s style more because of the weather: you can be beachy for the most part. I also love fall clothes, layers and boots. Winters are brutal in Chicago. I’d take LA style any day.
Q: Who are your favorite designers?
A: I love Elizabeth & James for everyday stuff and Mason for beachier stuff. Planet blue is also awesome, and I love Intermix for both. I’ll pretty much wear anything from there: it’s my favorite store by far. Balmain I’ve never worn but I love, Alexander Wang I love. Burberry makes great coats but you can’t wear them much in LA. I can actually wear them in Chicago.
Q: Whose style do you admire?
A: I love Kate Moss: I’ve always been a huge fan of her style. I also love Victoria Beckham and Zoe Saldana.
Q: Has your style changed since you got together with Jay, or vice versa?
A: I don’t think either one of us has changed. I’ll try to give Jay advice and he won’t listen. I once told him I hated one of his suits and he wore it immediately. That’s why I love him though. But he doesn’t really take my fashion advice.
Q: Do you think you’ll design your own wedding shoe?
A: Probably not. I’ve never really thought about it, but for me, the dress comes first. I haven’t even really thought about the shoe. We’re talking about the wedding now, so we’ll see.
Q: Would you do a reality series about your wedding?
A: Definitely not. We’ve actually been offered many reality shows about our wedding, and we’ve turned them all down.
