The American Institute of Architects, Los Angeles Chapter (AIA|LA) has announced the winners of the 2012 Design Awards during a ceremony on Monday evening hosted by world renowned musician-photographer and architecture enthusiast Moby.
The 2012 Design Awards were presented at the Broad Stage Theater in the Santa Monica Performing Arts Center along with the Cultural Affairs Architecture Awards, Presidential Honor Awards and Next LA Awards.
The ceremony was very different from past AIA|LA awards shows, as a slew of guest presenters were present to liven the evening, including actor/playwright/filmmakers and CAC commissioner Richard Montoya, bloggers Marissa Gluck and Alissa Walker and artist Cliff Garten.
According to Carlo Caccavale, AIA|LA Associate Director, “We wanted to go a more sophisticated route by incorporating video clips of prominent members of the architecture and design community expressing their thoughts on the present state of architecture and design. We also asked some high-visibility personalities who are known for their interest in architecture and design, like Moby, to introduce the ceremony, bringing more visibility to the awards within the larger Los Angeles community.”
Thirty-six firms and 27 Presidential Honorees were recognized during the annual awards ceremony. Winners included
