LA's The Varnish Wins Best American Cocktail Bar at 2012 Spirited Awards

There’s just one more reason to visit Los Angeles: downtown’s The Varnish has been named the Best American Cocktail Bar at the Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.

Founder and owner Cedd Moses accepted the award Saturday in New Orleans, scoring an impressive victory for the City of Angels.

In his acceptance speech he said: “Seven years ago I came out here and everybody was laughing about the bars in LA. And I said I was going to do great cocktail bars in LA. The redemption is good.”

Moses, who is also the man behind LA bars Las Perlas and the Golden Gopher, has been nicknamed Mr. Downtown for his Midas touch in the trendy, up-and-coming Los Angeles neighborhood.

Hollywood’s La Descarga was also nominated under the Best High Volume Cocktail Bar category, as was downtown eatery Rivera for Best Restaurant Bar.
