Arnold Schwarzenegger
Category: Thinkers
Industry: Politics
Company: State of California
What Made Him Haute: Primarily known for his iconic role as the cyborg sent to kill from the future in James Cameron’s 1984 sci-fi film The Terminator, Schwarzenegger, now 63, gained worldwide notoriety. Then in 2003, the famed bodybuilder and actor added politician to his professions when he was elected governor of California.
What Makes Him Haute Now: With his seven-year term at an end, Schwarzenegger leaves the state with both improvements and some setbacks. According to The Huffington Post, “as Schwarzenegger leaves office, California has the nation’s lowest credit rating,” yet the state has an even larger budget deficit than before. The Austrian-American actor turned governor also aimed to terminate greenhouse gas emissions as part of his environmental policy while in office.
Monday, on his final day in office, Schwarzenegger reduced the prison sentences of 12 criminals, including cutting the 16-year prison term of Esteban Nuñez, son of Schwarzenegger’s political ally Fabian Nuñez, to seven years.
