Menswear: Wall Street-inspired Fashion – Like a Million Bucks

News | October 28, 2010

Twenty-three years ago menswear was given a new definition with the release of Wall Street, the movie. Power dressing took a front seat and men invested in the type of clothing that would give them the confidence they needed to take their respective industries by storm. Today, the same rings true—powerful dressing makes for a powerful attitude and the confidence that comes with looking the part. Hot on the heels of the release of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, we caught up with the film’s original stylist, Ellen Mirojnick, who was brought back on to give Gordon Gekko a modern spin and up the ante on the desired aesthetic that she refers to as “stealth wealth.” According to Mirojnick, “The ideas of power and wealth changed [in the last 23 years]. Luxury became totally accessible, while silhouettes shifted and bank accounts grew.” And with quality of construction being key, she went custom. “For Wall Street 2, ‘stealth wealth’ meant these masters of the universe were meant to be lean and mean. Bespoke was the only way to go, which allowed each character to have his own signature.” And of course Mirojnick turned to the industry masters to make sure that each leading man had the very best in custom clothing. Shirts by Anto Beverly Hills and suiting tailored by Leonard Logsdail kept them looking sharp while Hermes ties and Vacheron Constantin watches added a little something extra to the men in question.
