The Most Expensive Shot of Whiskey in London?

News | July 9, 2010

At £750 for a double shot of whiskey, this is likely to be one of the more expensive tipples you will drink all week. Yet with a fascinating history and unique flavor, whisky fans might just want to treat themselves.

Surprisingly, this tipple can be found right in the heart of Trafalgar Square at The Albannach.

The Balvenie Cask 191 is a very rare whisky and is the last cask of The Balvenie from the 1950s. There are only 83 bottles for release from the 250 that were filled into the cask on the 26th January 1952 making it the smallest ever release by The Balvenie, and The Albannach has one of them.

The Cask was emptied on the 6 September 2002 to allow the whisky to be bottled. Apart from being the smallest ever release of Balvenie, it is also the first to be solely matured in sherry casks, making it truly unique. The sherry cask is said to have given the whisky a variety of flavors, from butterscotch to clover, honey, liquorice and chocolate.

The Balvenie Cask 191 Single Malt Scotch Whisky has a complex nose, intense with toffee, marzipan, sweet oak, raisins and nuts.

Each bottle features a hand written label, signed personally by David Stewart the malt master at The Balvenie and it is presented in a luxury cherry wood box.

If you’re not going on holiday this year, maybe a shot of whiskey is a great substitute instead?
