Gourmet On The Go: The Haute 5 Take-Out Spots in Dubai

News | January 28, 2010

If your fridge is looking sad and empty and you have no motivation to cook, then choose from among these take-away options. You’ll not only be satisfied, but surprised that a home-delivery option without the fun and flare of a fancy restaurant is possible in Dubai.

Oriental Kitchen
This restaurant promises a Pan-Asian experience, satisfying your oriental craving of the moment.  Dominated by Chinese fare, don’t miss the “Hearts Desire” dim sum, which comes with six steamed parcels of delicate shrimp, chicken, and veggies served with a chilli/soy sauce on a trimmed bamboo leaf. Chicken and sweetcorn soup is another good one at once sweet, light, and energizing. You get lovely presentation and savory Asian cuisine when you order from Oriental Kitchen.

Thai Wok
This Al Barsha-based restaurant has been claimed to offer the best Thai food in Dubai. However, if you venture out to this joint located behind the Mall of Emirates, you will find a small space with two counters and no tables–certainly not endowed for a sit-in meal. Never be fooled by appearances. When you taste this food, you will not be disappointed. The little restaurant boasts of produce and chefs taken directly from Thailand, and you will believe it when you chow down onto the delicious spring rolls, curries, and prawn pad Thai. The bill is incredibly cheap, for two on average you’ll spend around 100 AED.

Marzano Restaurant
Marzano Restaurant is not your typical takeaway. Souk Al Manzil’s Marzano restaurant is challenging the traditional take-away meal by offering customers the chance to hire the restaurant’s kitchen staff in their very own home! Those interested should book an appointment at the restaurant for a free consultation where Marco Pucciarelli, the executive chef, asks discerning clients to fill out a questionnaire where he discovers their dietary likes and dislikes. Pucciarelli then creates a menu of starters, entrees, and desserts, and heads off the house or the chosen venue to prepare the meal. Included in the price are food, beverages, preparation, and presentation. Certainly a more costly form of takeaway, but a real treat at that!

Al Safadi Restaurant
With an excess of Lebanese restaurants, its often hard to know which one to choose from. One of the best Lebanese takeaways the city offers is Al Safadi, which has served cuisine from various regions of Lebanon for over 25 years. Get hot Manakeesh, Foul, Fried egg, Kishik, Zaatar, Falafel, Hommos, and delicious seafood featuring the “catch of the day” delivered straight to your door. Smoke Shisha while enjoying your food at the actual joint for a real Arabic experience.

Zaika Restaurant
Zaika Restaurant is a premier Indian restaurant located in the Murooj Rotana Hotel specializing in cuisine from North India. For starters, try the cachumber salad made with cucumbers and carrots diced into small pieces and served on a banana leaf. For the main course, try the shami kebabs, as they are crispy on the outside with a creamy puree filled with spices on the inside. Also, opt for the zesty red lamb chops. Ordering from Zaika will bring you elegantly prepared delicious Indian cuisine. It should be noted that the restaurant itself is also a lovely place to dine.
