Vitamin D supplementation and sunscreen use done smart.

I bought this item mostly to manage my vitamin D intake. Now I know exactly when to start applying sunscreen, and the days when Vit. D supplementation is necessary.

It is super easy to use, and the information is right there on your wrist. No need to check an iPad or phone. Just check the lights on your SunFriend and you know when it is time to get out of the sun.

Finding my skin sensitivity was pretty straightforward, but takes a little trial and errors. 1 being ultra sensitive skin and 11 not sensitive at all never get sunburned.

I think it is useful to know that SunFriends calculates your Vit. D and UVs based on the fact that your face, arms and part of your legs would be exposed to the sunlight. I always wear sunscreen on my face (make up or hydrating cream) and I like to wear pants so I crank the sensitivity up one number. (instead of a 5, I would be a 6).

I NEVER had a sun burn since I am wearing it, but I haven't been under tropical sun yet with it.

Afraid of the sun no more, less messy sunscreen, less Vit. D to buy, this thing pays for itself.

This really works!

I was wary that this might be one of those 5-minute wonder totally useless gadgets. But have no fear, this is a really useful sensor that is well-designed, durable, and works well as advertized. I used Sunfriend for the first time this past weekend on a trip to the harsh Floridian sunshine. I had one of the cool black-grey variety which I think look better for men. My skin is sensitive, so I used the setting "1", and braved the Florida sunshine with a hat, T-shirt and shorts, and without yucky sunscreen. I have been cautious to maintain my vitamin D level since my doctor told me my I was really low about a year ago. Sure enough, the lights gradually advanced during the day while I was outside, and I reached around "10" by the end of the day, my arms started to feel like they'd had enough sun. On my second day I continued to wear my sunfriend as I swam in the ocean for hours, monitoring my uv intake. I can verify that it is totally waterproof. It's also cool to wear a gadget that no-one else has seen before, and everyone thinks is really cool !

In control of my sun exposure

Skin cancer runs in my family, but I found out recently that I am Vitamin D deficient. I bought a SunFriend to balance getting some sun but not enough to burn. So far so good. I got the orange and yellow because it looks like the sun. Surprisingly, it looks pretty good with my outfits despite the bright color. People keep asking me about it, which is pretty cool. The panel of lights takes getting used to, kind of like a 1970s digital watch. The SunFriend.com website has more detailed instructions than the package. The first day I set it to Skin Sensitivity 1 (SS-1), and it seemed too low. Now I set it at SS-4, and I still haven't burned. With practice I'm learning to trust that it really is measuring UV. (Apparently, the sensor was designed at NASA) I push the Check UVA+B button throughout the day, and when the LEDs get near 11, I start planning to put on sunscreen or go inside. Voilà! Easy. I feel more in control of my sun exposure, and don't have to slather on as much chalky white SPF 80 sunscreen. Also, the contact points are all silicone or plastic, so no nickel allergy issue.

Cool product for anyone concerned about skin damage and making enough Vitamin D.

Monitor & teach my children about sun exposure

Great device! Skin cancer runs in our family, so I thought this might be a good way to teach my daughter about being more sun aware. Worked like a charm. She loves wearing it.

Not Just for the Beach...

My work keeps me indoors for long hours each day, so when I'm able to enjoy time in the sun (even if it's only minutes at a time) I like to maximize the benefits. The SunFriend is easy to use, comfortable to wear, and allows me to ensure that I am getting enough sun throughout the day (hooray for vitamin D!).

Cool gadget for outdoor enthusiasts!

Great experience so far and works as advertised.

I had to read the instructions at SunFriend.com to set it up. Based on their skin sensitivity scale, I went with SS-7. I'm blond, but don't burn easily. I like that I can customize it to fit my UV tolerance.

The SunFriend UV monitor works well in combination with my sunglasses while I am hiking, biking, canoeing or climbing - simply, enjoying variety of sporting activities in nature. I highly recommend SunFriend UV monitor to all outdoor enthusiasts.

Dr. Oz, it is something you should promote... ;o)
