Innovative Naya Smart Breast Pump By Naya Health

The breast pump has finally joined the technology boom of the 21st century, thanks to founder Janica Alvarez of Naya Health. The Naya Smart Breast Pump ($939) is a hospital-grade device, which is smaller, more portable, weighs only three pounds and doesn’t interrupt the intimate bonding time between mothers and their newborns.

It features a compact and cordless double-electric closed electric pump, medical grade soft silicon breast shield, a storage bag and two BPA-free Naya Smart Bottles. Its patented HydroComfort Technology™, which uses water instead of air, allows for a more productive pumping experience. Along with more comfort while using the Naya Smart Breast Pump, mothers who do see an increase in expression, experience 30% more milk in less time thanks to the revolutionary method.

Designed by Jeff Alvarez, a medical-device engineer, and his wife, Janica, a clinical researcher in the pharmaceutical industry, the Naya Smart Breast Pump was created following Janica’s own experiences using a breast pump for her three kids. The Alvarez couple stand behind their water-based hydraulic technology and its smart technology, both of which separate the device from the competition.

What makes the pump smart, is its connection to the Naya Health Tracker App, which automatically tracks the pump sessions and milk supply. The Naya Smart Bottle enables mothers to accurately track the amount of milk their baby is consuming each feeding and gives mothers the answers they need for their baby’s nutrition.

The Alvarez journey to creating their revolutionary product began in 2013 when they managed to raise $6.5 million. After hitting a short snag – even though the device has approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration – with the VC industry,  the couple decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign in 2017 with an initial aim of raising $100,000, and achieved their goal and more.
