Biography
Dr. Raghu Athré is a facial plastic surgeon in Houston, Texas, and the founder of Athré Facial Plastics. He is one of the few surgeons in Houston who is double board certified, holding certification from the American Board of Otolaryngology (Head/Neck Surgery) and the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
Dr. Athré began his academic career at the University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with honors in Chemical Engineering through the Engineering Honors Program, with a specialization in Biomedical Engineering. He then earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, graduating in the top 10 percent of his class and receiving the Hudson-Penn Award for the top surgical senior medical student. He was also inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha.
A Reconstruction-Informed Approach. Following medical school, Dr. Athré completed his residency in Otolaryngology and Head/Neck Surgery at UT Southwestern. He was then awarded one of fewer than 40 fellowship positions in the country in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, training in Atlanta, Georgia at the Premier Image Cosmetic and Laser Surgery Center under Dr. William Silver. Dr. Athré relates plastic surgery to engineering, noting that both require analysis, attention to detail, and a precise plan of action.
Dr. Athré has authored numerous articles, written several book chapters, and lectured internationally. His published research spans rhinoplasty tip dynamics, facial filler agents, and reconstructive techniques, appearing in journals including the Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, the Laryngoscope, and Otolaryngology-Head/Neck Surgery. He also served as guest editor of Operative Techniques in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery.
Recognition and Practice. In 2026, Dr. Athré was named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor and recognized among Castle Connolly's Top AAPI Doctors. He has also been recognized by H Magazine and among RealSelf's Top 500 Docs. At his Houston Heights practice, he personally performs every procedure, from surgical rejuvenation to cosmetic injectables, and has developed a proprietary under-eye filler application called OcuRX.
