Rapper Nicki Minaj’s mother, Carol Maraj, sues Charles Polevich for $150 million over a hit and run crash last month resulting in her husband’s death. Polevich, 70, allegedly hit Robert Maraj, 64, as he was walking across the street in Long Island on February 12, 2021, and did not call 911, an attorney for Maraj said.

Polevich allegedly got out of his vehicle to check on Maraj. However, Polevich drove off leaving Maraj at the scene without calling for authorities or providing aid. Maraj died at the hospital the next day on February 13.

On February 17, Polevich was arrested and charged for leaving the scene and tampering with physical evidence where he pleaded not guilty. Polevich was released on bail with an order not to leave the state of New York.

In response, Maraj’s widow, Carol Maraj, has filed a lawsuit against Polevich for $150 million in the state Supreme Court in Nassau County. The widow defended that Polevich was negligent, reckless, and careless when he hit her husband, Carol’s attorneys, Ben Crump and Paul Napoli announced.

“He was not only irresponsible and negligent but more concerned about running away and hiding than seeking help,” Crump said via Instagram. Polevich’s attorney, Marc Gann, did not respond for comment.

Gann reported to Law&Crime that an insurance company would handle the civil lawsuit and that his client feels a “tremendous amount of empathy for the family.”

The Maraj family was “very, very, very happy” about the arrest, Carol Maraj said to Newsday.  Daughter Nicki Minaj has yet to make a public statement regarding her father’s death.
