Actor Armie Hammer is under police investigation after a 24-year-old woman, Effie Angelova, came forward saying that she was violently raped for several hours by Hammer on April 24, 2017, in Los Angeles. When describing the assault, Effie said she thought she was going to be killed.
Los Angeles attorney Gloria Allred contacted law enforcement on Thursday and introduced Effie. On February 3, the LAPD sexual assault division opened an investigation against Hammer, reported a police spokesperson to CNN. Hammer has since denied the rape allegation.
Effie reported that she had an on and off intimate relationship with the actor from 2016 to 2020. She met Hammer on Facebook and she “fell in love with him instantly.”
As their relationship progressed, Hammer became “increasingly more violent,” Effie said. Effie claims Hammer would emotionally, mentally, and sexually abuse her. To Hammer, this demonstrated her dedication to him. He would constantly push her boundaries, Effie states.
Effie accused Hammer of more than just violently raping her. Effie said that their relationship consisted of many non-consensual violent acts. For example, Hammer allegedly hit her feet with a crop where it hurt to walk the following week.
Hammer is not a stranger to scandal. This past year, the actor was accused of cannibalism by past relationships, which include Courtney Vucekovich and Paige Lorenze. Both of which came forward with similar accusations against the actor that described cannibalistic fantasies, grooming, and abuse. In response, Hammer said the acts were consensual.
Effie claimed her emotional, physical, and mental trauma led her to lose interest in living. Allred noted that this process will be “extremely traumatic and triggering” for her client.
In response, Hammer’s attorney Andrew Brettler, described his past relationships as “consensual,” which was agreed upon before the encounters. “As recently as July 18, 2020, [she] sent graphic texts to Mr. Hammer telling him what she wanted him to do to her. Mr. Hammer responded making it clear that he did not want to maintain that type of relationship with her,” Brettler explained with screenshots of the conversation.

Brettler claimed that Effie has intensified the issue by organizing a public press conference and hiring a civil lawyer. Brettler defended his client by saying it was not Hammer’s intention to expose her fetishes or sexual desires.
Effie expressed guilt for not coming forward sooner, but she wants to be a role model to all sexual abuse survivors. She hopes her story can lead to justice for all women around the world. Effie wants to warn women who come in contact with Hammer and provide hope for other women assaulted by Hammer. Since coming forward, Effie said she has been contacted by many other alleged victims of Hammer.
Allred said that there is no intent to file a lawsuit just yet. Nonetheless, evidence has been turned over to law enforcement to help the investigation against Hammer. Effie and Allred hope that Hammer will assist in the police investigation.
In 2020, Hammer announced his separation from his wife, Elizabeth Chambers, of 10 years. He has two children with his ex-wife. Hammer has stared in many movies including Call Me By Your Name and has had guest roles in many television series.
