American rapper, songwriter, and actress Cardi B and conservative author Candace Owens are engaging in a Twitter battle and threatening to sue each other over defamation. The once entertaining social media war between the two has taken a more serious turn.

On March 16, Owens threatened to sue Cardi for posting a photoshopped tweet. Owen’s alleged photoshopped tweet read that her husband cheated on her with her brother. Cardi responded that the tweet wasn’t photo-shopped. Owens replied that she is suing Cardi over slander against her brother, a private citizen. In response, Cardi threatened to sue Owens for her accusations of Cardi photoshopping the tweet.

Owens took to her Instagram with a 13-minute video explaining her intent to sue Cardi after both threatened court action on Twitter. “Not candy doing a whole 13-minute video of this shit on IG… Naa I’m not even angry to waste my energy to do No video. This was fun! Don’t mention my name if you can’t take the heat,” Cardi tweeted in response to the Instagram video.

Cardi also tweeted challenging Owens to a debate on Trump and President Biden. Owens responded, “me and you in a courtroom debating defamation law is what’s around the corner.” Cardi then said in a now-deleted tweet, “IN THONGS?” and Owens has not commented.

The Twitter battle initiated when Owens told Tucker Carlson on Fox News the “WAP” performance at the March 14’s Grammys added to “a weakening of American society.” In which Cardi tweeted “Yaaaayyyyyyy WE MADE FOX NEWS GUYS !!!” Cardi added, “Matter of fact I’m just going to thank Candy.” Cardi then released another series of tweets explaining that Owens boosted her streams and sales.

Owens then got wind of Cardi’s tweets in reaction to her Fox News clip. Owens accused Cardi of promoting “young women to strip themselves of dignity,” by using Owens’ birth name, Belcalis. Cardi expressed her confusion about why Owens is so bothered by her song, “WAP,” that it was inspired by former First Lady Melania Trump. Cardi also tweeted a nude photo of the former first lady including censors.

In response, Owens tweeted about Cardi’s “obsession with the Trump family.” Cardi responded that the former first lady is her idol and that she can be naked, perform “WAP,” and be the first lady because of her.

There is no further comment from both parties about the defamation case at this time.
