“Keeping Up With The Kardashians” star Kim Kardashian-West officially filed divorce papers on Friday, February 19, 2021, through her divorce attorney Laura Wasser, ending her marriage to rapper Kanye West. Wasser is a prominent divorce attorney for the stars with her previous clients including Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Angelina Jolie.
Kim and Kanye have been married for roughly seven years and were a power couple romanticized by the public. Throughout their marriage, there have been multiple rough milestones including Kim Kardashian’s 2016 robbery where she was held at gunpoint and Kanye West having very public mental breakdowns. West has been very vocal about his struggles with bipolar disorder, and Kim has stood by his side throughout the years. Kanye is known for taking to Twitter to express his dissatisfaction with the world that included a brief presidential run as well as claims that “Everybody knows the movie Get Out is about me” that “Kim was trying to fly to Wyoming with a doctor to lock me up” and addressing his crying breakdown during his presidential rally about wanting to abort his first daughter.
At the time, Kim spoke out in support of her husband’s struggles with bipolar disorder, but it seems as if she has had enough with his outbursts.

The NBC Today show reported in January that the couple had been living apart for a while and were in couple’s counseling. Allegedly Kanye has been living in his house in Wyoming for most of 2020 and Kim has stayed in Los Angeles with their four children, North, Saint, Chicago, and Psalm.
This filing follows on the heels of two class-action lawsuits filed against the rapper regarding his Sunday Services that he has held for the past year. The concerts were Kanye’s version of church featuring a large choir, dancers, and a huge crew. Performers and crew members are alleging lack of pay, no adequate bathrooms or breaks, and not following California Labor Laws for the shows, including his opera “Nebuchadnezzar.”
Divorce has been talked about publicly by West before, who even tweeted that he tried to get out of the marriage, but Kim Kardashian is the first to officialize with the filing of paperwork. She is filing for joint custody of their children, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason and pointing to their prenup regarding their assets.
Neither West nor Kardashian has made a formal statement regarding the filing.
