Together, they filed a joint lawsuit in California against the fake endorsement ad industry. The pair are suing 100 defendants, which remain anonymous. The lawsuit was filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court. The suit states the two look to “expose the Celebrity Endorsement Theft Industry, which … exploits the names, images, likenesses and personas of well-known celebrities who have not authorized or been compensated for such use.” Furthermore, the suit alleges that the defendants’ sites “feature comments and endorsements purportedly from Bullock and DeGeneres — all of which are fake and fraudulent and published without Plaintiffs’ consent.”

Additionally, the lawsuit states, “They (Sandra Bullock and Ellen DeGeneres) are targeted because of their age, their unimpeachable reputation for honesty and having worked hard at maintaining a healthy and youthful look, which con artists believe will attract and dupe unwitting customers into getting bilked by giving up their credit card information,” the lawsuit adds.
Online scams using celebrities such as Bullock and DeGegeneres’ likeness dupe customers into buying beauty and anti-aging products that have not been endorsed by the famous individuals.
