Mark Morrison, the British R&B singer best known for his 1996 hit Return of the Mack, is once again in the spotlight—but this time, it’s not for his music. The 52-year-old artist was arrested in Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday night following an altercation at Le Bar à Vin, a local restaurant. As reported by USA Today, Morrison was charged with simple battery, released on a $1,000 bond, and is scheduled to appear in court on April 15.
According to police reports, the incident began when Morrison entered the restaurant in an agitated state, shouting and cursing about an issue related to a previous event. Witnesses, including the restaurant’s nightlife manager, Fabrizio Riillo, said the singer then confronted another individual and forcefully shoved them twice. The alleged victim, who did not retaliate, informed authorities that they wished to press charges.
The dispute appears to have stemmed from an incident the night before. On Friday, Morrison reportedly brought a performer to the restaurant and insisted on increasing the volume of the music. When the venue’s management pushed back, making it clear he did not have control over sound levels, tensions flared. By Saturday night, according to Riillo, Morrison returned “looking for a fight.”
While Morrison has not yet made a public statement regarding his arrest, the event adds to a history of legal troubles that have often overshadowed his musical career. Nearly three decades after Return of the Mack cemented his place in R&B history, Morrison seems to be struggling with a different kind of return—one that has little to do with music and more with controversy.
