Tesla and Rivian Near Settlement in Trade Secrets Lawsuit

After four years of litigation, Tesla and Rivian are on the verge of resolving their legal dispute over allegations of trade secret theft. In a recent update reported by Bloomberg, Tesla announced that it has reached a “conditional” settlement with Rivian and plans to seek the dismissal of the case by December 24.

The lawsuit, originally filed in 2020, accused Rivian of actively recruiting Tesla employees with the intention of obtaining confidential company information. Tesla claimed that three of its employees took proprietary data when they left the company for Rivian. Rivian has consistently denied these accusations, calling them “baseless.”

Rivian had previously filed a motion to dismiss the case, but this request was denied by a California judge. In a ruling earlier this year, the judge indicated that the case would likely proceed to trial in 2025. However, with the recent settlement announcement, it now appears that the matter may be resolved before reaching the courtroom.
