Snapchat Inc. has reached a $15 million settlement to resolve allegations brought by California’s civil rights agency, accusing the company of discriminating against female employees, failing to prevent workplace sexual harassment, and retaliating against women who reported such incidents.

The settlement, announced by the California Civil Rights Department on Wednesday, covers female employees who worked at Snapchat Inc. in California between 2014 and 2024, pending court approval.

According to the department, the agreement concludes a more than three-year investigation into claims that the Santa Monica, California-based company discriminated against female employees in terms of pay and promotions.

The bulk of the settlement funds will be allocated to compensate employees who faced discrimination at Snapchat Inc., California officials stated.

Kevin Kish, director of California’s civil rights agency, emphasized the importance of equality in the workplace: “This settlement with Snapchat demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that all workers in California have a fair opportunity to succeed. Women are entitled to equality in every job, every workplace, and every industry.”
