‘Empire’ Star Bryshere Gray Sentenced To Jail Over Domestic Violence

Best known for his role as Hakeem Lyon on the Fox series ‘Empire,’ Bryshere Gray has pleaded guilty in his felony domestic violence case. Consequently, he’s been sentenced to do some time behind bars. 

According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, the actor was found guilty of aggravated assault. As part of his plea agreement, Gray will spend 10 days in county jail and serve 3 years probation. Additionally, he’s been ordered to pay restitution and must enroll in a domestic violence offender program. 

Gray must stay out of trouble during his probation period. On top of submitting to drug and alcohol testing, he cannot possess any types of weapons or firearms. Furthermore, he must check in with his probation officer 72 hours after being contacted by law enforcement and requires written approval from police before interacting with anyone who possesses a criminal record. 

According to FOX 10 Phoenix, Gray’s wife accused him of domestic violence last year. After flagging down a citizen for help at a gas station, she told police that Gray had allegedly assaulted her for several hours at their Phoenix home. The actor did not come out of his house when police arrived, and a standoff with SWAT ensued until Gray surrendered at 7 a.m. on July 13. Following the incident, he was booked into Maricopa County Jail on charges of aggravated assault, domestic violence, and disorderly conduct.
