2021 has only been 3 months long, but there have been a lot of crazy lawsuits along the way. After the year we had in 2020, you would think that nothing would be surprising anymore… but these 5 lawsuits take the cake.

#5 Robinhood Vs. Gamestop

In late January of 2020, the stock market took a turn for the crazy with declining game store ‘GameStop’ shooting up from $4 a share to $485. This was due in part to its promotion on a Reddit group known as WallStreetBets and other social media sites. While a jump of this magnitude is crazy enough, what trading site ‘Robinhood’ decided to do next was even crazier. Robinhood restricted the amount of shares their users could buy in GameStop, completely cutting off the buying at one point. Many users have filed lawsuits, the number being around 90 at the moment, about the illegal and hurtful actions the company took. One class-action lawsuit alleges that Robinhood’s actions were taken “purposefully and knowingly to manipulate the market for the benefit of people and financial institutions who were not Robinhood customers.” The cases are still ongoing although it is unlikely that they will ever actually see a courtroom as many large companies, Robinhood included, have legal writing in their user agreements that any lawsuits will be solved through arbitration.

#4 Uber Girls

In mid-March, Uber driver Subhakar Khadka picked up three girls in the San Francisco area. What started as a normal ride soon turned into a disaster, as later that day he reported that he had been assaulted by two of the passengers. During the ride, Subhakar noticed that one of the passengers wasn’t wearing his mask, he pulled over and asked her to put it on before he resumed, according to California law and Uber’s policies at the time. The girls refused with one of them reaching forward and grabbing Mr.Khadka’s phone before yanking his mask off and coughing on him. Another girl kept mentioning that she had Corona and coughed on him as well. After finally exiting the vehicle, one of them reached in the front seat and attempted to pepper spray the driver as well. Now, both girls are facing jail time for charges of robbery, assault and battery, conspiracy, and violation of the health and safety code. C’mon everyone, just wear your mask.

#3 Capitol Riots

Who can forget the day that Americans decided to storm their own Capitol building? What started as a peaceful outside protest of Donald Trump’s presidential defeat, soon turned into a mad rush into the Capitol building itself. Guards on duty were attacked, people were breaking windows, sitting in senators’ offices and desks, stealing podiums, and much more general menace was afoot. After the fact, numerous political figures have sued former President Trump for ‘incitement to riot’ for not doing/saying enough during the attacks. In this circumstance, it wasn’t the lawsuit that was crazy but the fact that this type of situation happened in the first place.

#2 Armie Hammer

Armie Hammer is just another successful man in Hollywood who has been accused of sexual assault. Unfortunately, this is nothing new, and wouldn’t normally be considered crazy. What IS crazy though are the accusations that he is a cannibal as well. Apparently one of the women accusing him of sexual assault, also claims to have text messages of him describing his cannibalistic tendencies. According to her, Armie wanted to have one of her ribs surgically removed, smoked in his meat smoker, and then eaten by him. We’ve had a lot of things thrown at us in the past year but “Armie Hammer is a cannibal” is not one many saw coming.

#1 Gorilla Glue

Coming in at #1, we have Gorilla Glue girl. Tessica Brown shocked the internet when she posted a Tik Tok about her using a spray can of Gorilla Glue on her hair instead of hairspray. Some sources say it was a mistake as the can looks similar to hairspray, other sources say Tessica ran out of hair spray and chose Gorilla Glue as an alternative. Whatever the reasoning, Tessica found herself in a world of trouble when she found that her hair would no longer move and she had no way of removing the gorilla glue. She finally had to turn to the Emergency Room to get her hair unstuck. TMZ reported soon after that Tessica planned on suing Gorilla Glue for the mishap, although she refuted that claim. It is uncertain what, if anything, will come from this.

What do you think was the craziest lawsuit of 2021 so far?
