Get to know one of Haute Lawyer’s newest attorneys – Family/Divorce Law attorney Janice Roven. Janice Roven has been practicing law for over 35 years. She became involved in the area of family law because of her own very unfortunate custody battle. As a result, she understands being on both sides of the table. She provides strength, compassion, and the wisdom of personal experience.

What is your goal as an attorney?
My goal is to help families get through a very difficult time with the best possible outcome.
Why did you choose your area of specialization in law?
I always wanted to be an attorney. I always practiced in the area of litigation. However, approximately 15 years ago, I was confronted with a custody battle that lasted for over 10 years. As a result of this experience, I have been on both sides of the desk. I understand from personal experience what it is like to be involved in a high conflict custody battle. This enables me to have a different understanding than most other lawyers who practice in my field.
What is your most memorable client success story?
I had a client whose husband took their wedding album put it in the sink and ran water on the album while he stabbed it. She was involved in an abusive marriage. He continued to be abusive during the divorce proceeding telling her that she should settle the case for a small sum of money. We were able to resolve this matter and add a zero to the settlement offer. He has remarried and she has found a new career.
What do you love most about your profession?
I love helping people. I love watching my clients evolve from feeling broken while in the middle of a family that is breaking up to people who are whole with a different family structure.
