Felicia Gonzales filed a lawsuit at Multnomah County Circuit Court against Marriot International Inc., Residence Inn by Marriott, LLC, Hospitality Investors Trust, Inc., HIT Portfolio I MISC TRS, LLC, Inn Ventures, Inc., and two individuals, including the general manager at the Residence Inn by Marriott Portland Downtown/Convention Center, seeking $300,000. Per the lawsuit, Gonzales, a lifelong Portland resident until 2018 when she moved to California, was visiting family in the area.

Gonzales, a California resident, says that she was singled out for her race when the front clerk asked her to fill out a “No Party” policy form as she was checking in at the Portland hotel. She also alleges that the clerk told her it was required for all guests to do so. But, her claims states that she noticed that white guests were not being required to do the same.

She claims that she was a Marriott rewards member, and she had “had never had a problem or noise complaint at any other Marriott hotel she had ever stayed at.” Further, the lawsuit says that she signed the form so that she could get into her room for her stay in January 2019.

Per the lawsuit, filed by Gonzales’s lawyers at Kafoury & McDougal, “Having to sign a ‘NO PARTY’ Policy form did not feel right to Ms. Gonzales, so she went back to the front desk. Ms. Gonzales observed as multiple Caucasian guests checked in. None of them were asked to sign a ‘NO PARTY’ policy.”
