Facebook Sued By Employees Of Israeli Spyware Company

Facebook is being sued by the employees of an Israeli spyware company, NSO Group, for allegedly having blocked their individual personal accounts. Facebook previously alleged that NSO Group had violated user privacy for hacking into the messaging service WhatsApp, a property of Facebook. The lawsuit was filed in Tel Aviv.

A total of eight employees of NSO Group say they were blocked from their personal accounts for being employees of the Israel-based company, which would be against Facebook’s terms of service.

In a statement, the group said, “Blocking our private accounts is a harmful and unjust measure of Facebook against us. In addition, the knowledge that our personal information was searched and used bothers us very much”. NSO Group announced that the action was solely taken by the employees as an “independent action”.

In October, Facebook sued NSO Group for allegedly helping client hack into journalists, diplomats, government officials and dissidents’ WhatsApp messages.

NSO Group has been previously accused by independent researchers of helping the governments of various countries (including Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Morocco) to spy on protesters and human rights workers.
