In the midst of last season’s playoff games against the Las Vegas Golden Knights in April of this year, the star player headed into the hotel and received multiple markers. Casino markers are lines of credit given by the casino to usually affluent patrons for quick accessibility to cash.
The Cosmopolitan Hotel and Casino is looking to be repaid for the markers. Also, it seeks payment for damages, attorney fees, court costs and more. Evander Kane appears to be unresponsive about paying back the loans. The hotel is suing Kane for breach of contract, breach of the implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, conversion and unjust enrichment.
Last year, Kane signed a contract lasting seven years with the California-based Sharks for a total of $49 million.
Sharks coach Pete DeBoer said that he was not aware of the lawsuit until it became public news. Also, he said that he would not involve himself in the matter. “I don’t have any concerns,” DeBoer said. “When you coach in this league for 11 years, there’s a lot of personal issues behind the scenes that go on, in all kinds of different areas. So, that’s something that I really don’t get involved with, unless it affects what we’re doing in here. Obviously, it hasn’t been.”
