Acne in our teens, crow’s feet in our 30’s and wrinkles in our 50’s. If it’s one thing our skin takes, it’s a beating. Battling skin concerns throughout the years can be exhausting and costly, especially if you’re in the bridging ages which welcomes you to a multitude of skin concerns. Haute Beauty caught up with board-certified doctor Dr. Stacy Chimento to discuss the preventative skincare those in their 20’s should be mindful of, here’s what she had to say:
What are the main skin concerns for those in their 20’s?
Adult acne, large pores, pigmentation, acne scarring
What treatments would you recommend for those dealing with adult acne?
For women, hormonal acne can persist in their 20s. Birth control can help control hormones and acne flares. Facials are gentle enough to do once every few weeks. Chemical peels prevent pores from getting clogged and remove the top layer of dead skin.
Which skin concerns would you recommend retinol for?
Anti-aging, acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation, improving skin texture and discoloration.
At what specific, if any, age should those in their 20’s begin using eye creams?
Late 20s or early 30s are a great time to start using eye creams.
Which treatment would you recommend for those with uneven skin tones?
Chemical peels containing retinoids or gentle laser resurfacing can help restore healthy skin glow and minimize pores.
Which preventative treatments would you recommend for those battling aging skin?
Establishing a skin routine is the first and most important step in taking care of your skin. Topical sunscreens, retinoids and antioxidants are part of the fundamentals. Neuromodulators (i.e. Botox or other wrinkle relaxers) can help prevent fine lines from becoming static and etched in.
