Adele Spills The Real Reason Why She Lost Weight

There’s no doubt that Adele’s weight loss transformation broke the internet, erupting a stir of mixed emotions. In fact, it was a topic the 33-year-old singer spoke candidly about — along with her divorce from former spouse Simon Konecki — in her recent cover story with American Vogue

“My body’s been objectified my entire career. It’s not just now. I understand why it’s a shock. I understand why some women especially were hurt. Visually I represented a lot of women. But I’m still the same person,” Adele told Vogue. “The most brutal conversations were being had by other women about my body. I was very f—king disappointed with that. That hurt my feelings.”

The early years of Adele’s famous career saw her with a notably fuller figure, which she confidently defended from body shamers — she once memorably quoted, “I don’t make music for eyes. I make music for ears.” So when photos of her Caribbean vacation surfaced online in early 2020, fans were quick to notice and express on social media that the singer appeared “too skinny” and that she “doesn’t look like herself anymore.” Later on, a full-body shot that Adele posted to Instagram during May 2020 also made the rounds on the internet. 

Although Adele said she began working out, it wasn’t to lose weight. Rather, her goal was to prioritize her emotional well-being. 

“It became my time,” she told Vogue of hitting the gym. “I realized that when I was working out, I didn’t have any anxiety. It was never about losing weight. I thought, if I can make my body physically strong, and I can feel that and see that, then maybe one day I can make my emotions and my mind physically strong.”

The songstress focused on “getting stronger, physically and mentally,” according to her trainer, Gregg Miele. “She got really turned on to movement, and especially strength training. So turned on that she started doing double sessions,” Miele told Vogue.

Dishing on her fitness details to British Vogue, Adele said she likes working out “two or three times a day,” which typically incorporates “weights in the morning,” followed by afternoon sessions of hiking or boxing and ending with “cardio at night.” And if you’re wondering why Adele refused to share her health journey on social media, she now made the reason especially clear for everyone. 

“People are shocked because I didn’t share my ‘journey.’ They’re used to people documenting everything on Instagram, and most people in my position would get a big deal with a diet brand. I couldn’t give a flying f—k. I did it for myself and not anyone else. So why would I ever share it?” Adele told British Vogue. “I don’t find it fascinating. It’s my body.” 

Even though Adele shines as one of the most famous musicians today, we admire her decision to privately prioritize her health journey. A place in the spotlight doesn’t give the public the right to know a celebrity’s every move, let alone comment on it.
