Cosmetic rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that can change the shape or size of the nose. The most common issues that are improved with rhinoplasty are softening the appearance of an enlarged dorsal hump, improving the profile of the nose, and overall softening the tip of the nose to be in better balance with the face.
HB: What is the procedure like?
Cosmetic rhinoplasty is performed in a surgical facility under general anesthesia. In general, it takes roughly one to two hours to perform and it is an outpatient procedure. Usually, there is minimal pain following the procedure.
HB: Who is a good candidate?
A good candidate for this surgery is a male or female who has no major medical issues, but who has concerns about the appearance of their nose. Ideally, the patient is 18 years of age or older and they have a realistic expectation of the surgical outcome.

In my opinion, someone under the age of 16 is not a good candidate for surgery. Also, someone who has significant medical issues or is a chronic cigarette smoker is not a good candidate for rhinoplasty.
HB: What is recovery like?
Upon awakening from cosmetic rhinoplasty, there will be a splint across the bridge of the nose. There is also packing on the inside of the nose that usually comes out the very next morning. The nasal splint and any sutures are removed one week from surgery. There is minimal discomfort this surgery and most people can take Tylenol after just a day or two. The downtime is two weeks of no strenuous exercise or activity.
HB: What is the cost?
The cost of cosmetic rhinoplasty really depends on how involved the surgery is. In general, you can expect to pay roughly $10,000 – $12,000 if you go to an experienced Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
