HB: How does a Hydrafacial work?
The Signature HydraFacial at Dr. Shridharani’s practice in New York City is comprised of three actions that contribute to the resurfacing of the skin: physical exfoliation from suction pressure and a textured tip, chemical exfoliation from acids such as glycolic and salicylic, and suction to lift dead skin cells off the surface. There are several other specialized components of the treatment that are exclusive to patients at LUXURGERY.
A basic treatment starts with a Cleanse + Peel that uncovers a new layer of skin with gentle exfoliation and relaxing resurfacing. Next, debris is removed from the pores with painless suction, and nourished with Antiox+ serum that contains Antioxidants, Peptides, and Hyaluronic Acid. Then, a chemical peel solution is delivered in the same way, increasing the depth of exfoliation. The final steps involve the same pressurized delivery of treatment serums customized to the needs of the skin.

HB: Who is the best candidate for this procedure?
HydraFacials can be performed on all skin types, including very sensitive skin. What is unique about this treatment is that it is highly customizable. Dr. Shridharani’s team of skincare experts will work with you to understand your unique skin concerns, and will recommend a personalized treatment for you.
Prior to undergoing a HydraFacial treatment, individuals with an allergy to shellfish should inform their skin care specialist. One of the primary steps of treatment contains an ingredient that the skin of patients with a shellfish allergy may react to, in which case your provider will simply substitute this product for one that is better suited to you.
HB: How does this treatment compare to others of the same nature?
HydraFacial is constantly compared to microdermabrasion. HydraFacial and microdermabrasion are both skin resurfacing treatments that remove dead skin cells and impurities, making the skin appear more radiant. When compared to a traditional microdermabrasion treatment, the HydraFacial stands out in its emphasis on skin hydration – every step of the HydraFacial treatment incorporates a solution that delivers intense plumping hydration to the skin.
Microdermabrasion uses an abrasive tip to remove the top layer of the skin and a vacuum to simultaneously remove the eliminated skin cells. This procedure is commonly used for treating dark spots, dull skin, and mild acne. Due to the abrasive tip of the device, the treatment may feel rough on skin. The pulling motions can also cause redness or inflammation after the treatment.
HydraFacial, on the other hand, feels very gentle on skin. It exfoliates using vortex technology to lift off dead skin cells, dirt, and oil while simultaneously delivering hydrating skin solutions. The HydraFacial is considered a total rejuvenation treatment because it combines various procedures in one session. Additionally, HydraFacial is unique in that it is completely customizable – each treatment is designed specifically to the skin type and skin concerns of the individual. For patients seeking an extensive, individualized skincare procedure, HydraFacial is the ideal treatment.
HB: Can HydraFacial at LUXURGERY be performed at the same time as other treatments (Botox, Filler, Kybella, Microneedling, etc…?)
Understanding the nature of the desired treatment is very important to Dr. Shridharani and his team. Many treatments can be performed on the same day. Having performed thousands of injectable, laser and skincare treatments, Dr. S can guide you on what is safe to do at the same visit and what should be delayed/prioritized.
HB: What does recovery look like?
There is little to no downtime for the HydraFacial, which is what makes it great. Just make sure to follow up the next few days with sunscreen with minimal exposure to the sun.
