Aerolase: The Latest In Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Cosmetic Treatments, Doctor's Talk October 4, 2019 By Marissa Gonzalez

Dr. Mudit Arora of Forever Young Complete Healthcare in Iselin, New Jersey is the expert when it comes to anti-aging and skin rejuvenation. Dr. Arora has a classically effective philosophy when it comes to patient wellness: “Optimizing your health is perfecting your life’s potential – in happiness, beauty, and longevity.” Rather than just masking patient symptoms or signs of aging with temporary pharmaceutical treatments, he uses an innovative, multifaceted approach in treating the underlying causes. Haute Beauty chats with Dr. Arora about Aerolase, the latest tool for treating acne, fine lines, facial hair removal rosacea, spider veins and so much more.

HB: What is Aerolase?

The Aerolase is a unique, gentle medical aesthetic laser which is able to achieve unrivaled results for skin rejuvenation and anti-aging. It is a reinvented “ND:YAG laser” and works effectively in all skin types, while minimizing the chance of discomfort or burning.

HB: What kind of conditions does it help fix?

It has 36 FDA cleared indications and is effective for: Active acne, acne scarring, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles, facial hair removal, bruising, rosacea, keloids, hypertrophic scars, spider veins, warts, psoriasis, port wine stains, skin tags, pseudo-folliculitis barbae, telangiectasias, and more – we treat all of these in the clinic.

HB: How does it work to fix these conditions?

I like explaining this part to patients prior to starting, because it provides understanding of what’s happening during the treatment. The laser’s unique technology targets a combination of melanin, hemoglobin, and water in the skin tissue – which contribute to your skin’s signs of aging and symptoms. The same technology allows energy to penetrate deeply into the skin within a highly safe and tolerable pulse to reduce sebum production, suppress inflammation, and destroy acne causing bacteria to help clear current acne breakouts and to stop them in the future. The deep heating energy also helps build collagen, which can reduce the appearance of acne scars and leave skin looking radiant.

HB: Are Aerolase treatments painful?

Our patients report markedly less pain than other lasers given the high energy delivery in short pulses, which stays focused on target and prevents heat from escaping into nearby skin. We also take breaks if needed during the treatment and change energy settings to accommodate all skin types. Patient comfort is very important to me, and we have come up with our own algorithms for this and best results.

HB: Is there downtime after treatment?

There is no “down-time” per say after treatment, besides some redness which can persist for a few hours – but it’s important to use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 after care, and other precautions post-laser.

HB: Are there other treatments comparable to Aerolase?

There are other lasers which may take longer and cause more discomfort to produce similar results, but nothing fully comparable to the Aerolase.

HB: Why did you choose this method versus others as form of treatment?

There are other lasers which may take longer and cause more discomfort to produce similar results, but nothing fully comparable to the Aerolase. It has virtually no side effects, is very comfortable for patients, and the results can be seen quickly – in as little as a single treatment. It is highly safe, effective, and tolerable for all skin types, all ages, and all types of acne. It was important for us to be able to treat all skin types, and all skin of color (all of the Fitzpatrick scale).

HB: How many treatments are necessary? Outcomes? Side effects?

This varies depends on what we are treating, but we recommend 4-5 treatments spaced out 2-5 weeks apart (again depending on what the underlying issue is). Minimal to no side effects, but may include minor burns, irritation, redness. Results can be seen as quickly as after the first treatment, but are most noticeable after the recommended amount of treatments have been completed.
